The double doors of the administration building burst open and out came a menacing-looking 5-foot-tall figure, looking visibly irritated at something and muttered something incoherently to herself. She was wearing a white t-shirt under a faded red sleeveless hoodie and jeans whose cuffs looked a little frayed. She looked like she had put on the first things she found in her closet without seeming like a slob. Slung across her small shoulder was a worn-looking messenger bag that looked too heavy for someone of that height to be carrying around and she was hugging her brand-new textbooks to her nonexistent chest. Passersby avoided her as she continued to mutter a stream of curses to nobody in particular but people who got too close could hear snatches of her incensed monologue.

"Stupid teller.... Not a guy... Who are they kidding... Sir...*@$*(#@*&$^..." she grumbled as she strode rather quickly for a girl of her height through the grass, heedless of the other students, some of whom were staring fearfully at her. Her favourite pair of red sneakers sloshed on the dewy grass as she trudged on, looking preoccupied.

Because she was so unaware of her surroundings, she didn't see the tall, muscular guy running toward her. He collided with her in his rush to get to his destination on time and didn't seem to be too careful of where he was going. Ryan was taken aback as she fell forward on her knees and instinctively threw her hands in front of her to break the fall. A torrent of curses escaped the small girl's lips as she struggled to get up and glared up the guy who had crashed into her. She narrowed her eyes, remembering him as Chad from the university's football varsity, someone she had met just the other day. He had mistaken her for a guy and she had made him regret ever making thatmistake. Since then, Ryan had received many invitations to the various sports and martial arts varsities including, to her amused surprise, the football team.

Chad was still trying to gather his wits as Ryan stood to her full height, which really wasn't much, and stood intimidatingly over him, her figure casting a shadow on his sprawled figure. Chad looked up and his eyes widened as he recognised Ryan. Some people stopped in their tracks to watch the confrontation. It was an interesting sight indeed for Ryan stood at least a foot shorter than the boy cowering at her feet.

"H-hey Ryan," Chad stammered. He clumsily got up and bent down to pick up her books, which had flown out of her grasp as she fell to the ground. Looking like a remorseful puppy, he handed them back to her with an uncertain smile.

"I was in a hurry. My bad," he apologised, waiting anxiously for her reply. Ryan held out her hands to grab the books from him but she felt a surge of invisible energy escape from her hands and the books extracted themselves from Chad's grip and hurtled toward him, sending him flying backwards and rendering him unconscious. Instead of looking surprised at the invisible force that had propelled her books and knocked Chad out, she only looked exasperated.

"Not again," Ryan sighed as she walked over to pick up her books, which had dropped harmlessly on the ground beside Chad. She guessed correctly that her telekinetic abilities had once again gone out of control.

Meleaus took a glance at the crowd gathering around a young girl and an unconscious young man. Ryan the pint-size hothead and Chad the doofus. Humans.

"The school year has barely begun and already there's a skirmish. Yeesh..."

He glanced at a nearby tree, and took a couple of leaves from the lowest branch. He's already had breakfast, but it doesn't hurt to have a little snack after the long walk from the boarding house to the school. So he munched on the leaves with great satisfaction, and proceeded to his first class of the day.

Trying to ignore the curious stares directed at her, she moved on an headed for her first class of the day. She was already running a little late and her short legs were not cooperating with her need to rush. She did not have a hard time pushing through throngs of students who looked joyous at seeing their friends after the long break, one of the privileges of being short. Though she'd never admit that out loud. She was already halfway through her classroom when her cellphone started to ring.

Dammit. I forgot to put it on silent mode.

A little out of breath, she paused to fish the thing out of her hoodie's pocket and checked the Caller ID. Her mother's beaming face stared back at her and she had to suppress a sigh.

"This can only mean that she wants something from me," she grumbled as she started to walk to a quieter area and flipped open the simple, white cell phone, holding it a foot or so away from herself.

"Hey, Mom," Ryan said, trying to keep the annoyance from showing in her voice and face. Her mother's holographic image bounced into the screen, which was followed by a mechanical voice which still managed to sound imploring.

"Ryan, sweetheart!" she exclaimed, "I have this really important interview with Teh Planet's Prime Minister. Could you please look after Billy for a while?"

"Mom, I've got class," Ryan stated bluntly, just barely stopping herself from rolling her eyes. It didn't take a clairvoyant to know when her mother needed a favor. Joanna Hughes's image pouted at her daughter and she was about to say something when it was interrupted by a shrill voice. Ryan winced. That could only mean...

"I want ice cream!" a cute, little blond kid squealed as his image bounced in. Joanna tried to hush him but he was persistent.

"But you said Ryan was gonna take me to the mall~!" Billy whined, his hazel eyes, so similar to Ryan's, large with accusation. Ryan saw that he was about to throw a fit and cut in.

"Alright, alright! It's adjustment week, anyway, and the teachers won't show up. I can babysit for the day," she yielded. Immediately, Billy turned his attention back to her.

"Yaaaaay~!" he exclaimed, running out of the screen. In the background, there was an alarming THUD and more screaming. Joanna looked towards the direction where her son disappeared and said distractedly, "Thanks, sweetheart. I'll see you at Teh Mall. I'd better go before your brother breaks anything although I'm pretty sure we already cleared the house before you left..." There was a KZZSSSHH as the reception ended and Ryan let out a long breath as she closed her phone. She tried not to imagine the stress that she'd be put in later as she pocketed her cellphone and headed for the dormitories.
